1. La Naturaleza Ideológica del Sionismo: ¿Izquierda o Derecha?
Existe una profunda división sobre la clasificación política del sionismo. Mientras que muchos en la izquierda lo consideran inherentemente una ideología de extrema derecha, colonialista y fascista, otros argumentan que históricamente tuvo raíces socialistas (Sionismo Laborista) o que es simplemente un movimiento de autodeterminación judía que trasciende el espectro político tradicional.

2. El Conflicto Central: Antisionismo vs. Antisemitismo.
El punto más contencioso es la relación entre la crítica a Israel/Sionismo y el antisemitismo. La izquierda progresista insiste en que el antisionismo es una postura legítima contra el colonialismo, mientras que los críticos (incluidos muchos judíos) advierten que el antisionismo a menudo se utiliza como una máscara para el odio a los judíos o que la distinción se ha vuelto borrosa en la práctica.

3. Incompatibilidad del Sionismo con los Principios Progresistas.
Una facción significativa de la izquierda sostiene que el sionismo, en su manifestación actual o inherente, es fundamentalmente incompatible con los valores progresistas como el anticolonialismo, el antifascismo y el internacionalismo, especialmente debido a su naturaleza de "etnoestado" y las acciones en Palestina.
