- Every dem (and even several republicans) who ran on an explicitly anti-trans platform lost their elections. Transphobia doesn't win elections, you just want to pretend it does because that's all you care about.
- "transphobia loses elections" is magical thinking. It doesn't comport with reality. Trump is transphobic and polling neck and neck.
- Transphobia loses elections. The top performing democrats in 2022 & 2024 were vocal trans allies. We have everything to lose & nothing to gain by letting fascists demand the authority to pull your kids' pants down at any time and framing that as moral and normal.
- Virulent transphobia is a losing position. It loses elections, it polls fantastically badly, it is wildly unpopular. Statements of support for trans people *should* be a slam dunk, huge bang for the buck.
- As horrible as this is, transphobia has proven in the last 6 years to be an electoral loser and the sign of a flailing republican campaign. It does not resonate with anyone outside committed maga republicans and actively damages the campaign.
- It’s incredibly telling that people not only think transphobia is a winning strategy, but one that dems would be amicable to. Truly an embarrassing place to get to as a party and country.
- Democrats will not gain votes by indulging in transphobia. Have a goddamn principle, stand up for trans folks, and people will respect it. It's the right thing to do and better politics.
- Yeah look as a trans person you’ll have to forgive me if i am unable to say “meh” about dems embracing transphobia.
- Dems are absolutely at fault for the rise of transphobia in the u.s., because they surrendered the issue rather than fighting on it. You either fight for your principles or you get bulldozed.
- The republicans have spent the last few years increasingly making transphobia a centerpiece of their politics and the dems have just ignored it and hoped it would go away.
- Republicans have entrenched transphobia as a core party position. Democrats though have not made being pro-trans a core position, which means they're constantly flirting with it to see if they can get away with it.
- The thing that is bad about republicans being transphobic is the *transphobia*, not the *being republicans*! jesus fucking christ.
- Republicans are the ones who bring up trans people incessantly, during the election kamala harris barely said two words about trans people at all, but republicans made transphobia the backbone of their campaigns.
- Transphobia is a deep dark stain on the republican party’s agenda. So much hate….
- I think we have underestimated the extent to which the right have exploited transphobia to win elections.
- So we can ignore transphobia if it means getting a democrat into office? brainrot politics.
- For trans people, the greatest threat is not republicans; it's transphobes, which can be either democrats or republicans.
- If dems are going to embrace transphobia, i hope they lose. I sure as fuck wont donate or call or knock doors for that shit.
- Cw: transphobia, genocide the right is on the path to getting what they want which is our elimination. And the dems worry that our existence will cost them votes. Awesome time to be trans in america.
- Queer people: do not let the democrats brand the rejection of transphobia as a "purity test." it is the very lowest standard that should be expected of all democrats. Democrats have no excuse to be transphobic. None. Transphobia is a *choice*.
