- Such an insidious form of transphobia and gender essentialism. And it gets away with it. It works, especially in fandoms, even where trans people are supposed to be safe all because of its veil of (cis) gay and women's rights. Insanity.
- If you have an issue with trans people being depicted in fanfiction fuck right off my account! and if you think you can "tell" when trans rep is written by a trans vs. Cis author, no you can't if it makes you dysphoric, zone your shit. Don't blame me.
- Making characters trans in fic isn't really enough, honestly. These reactions are so grim and what made me feel so distant from the terror fandom in the first place. Why are you all making fun of a trans guy saying transphobia happened in our fandom? why aren't you upset and looking for change?
- The book i'm querying (collectors) has a trans woman mc. It's adult sf, and emily has been out for years, so being trans is a minor plot point, but i found transphobia wound into the core of the mcs experience (much like real life ) it was cathartic to write the bad ends for the transphobes.
- I had fans of his telling me it was okay for the characters to experience transphobia as transphobia happens in real life but 1) that's not the point, and 2) the moon isn't actually sentient and faces cut off and pinned to the wall can't talk, so i don't think real life is much of a barometer here.
- Fandom in particular really makes people forget how common transphobia can be. Not everyone and everywhere, but like, fuck, dude. And it is probably why so many get away with their more covert transphobia and part of why we're made to feel fucking ridiculous whenever we point out transphobia.
- Pretty strange and frankly a bit cruel to react to someone sharing their experiences of transphobia in the fandom by calling them a liar or not thick skinned enough. The amount of trans content isn't a gotcha card that you can use to discredit any discussions of discrimination?
- This is why i don't headcanon homophobia/transphobia as canon in my personal ffxiv universe. If people want to process their trauma around homo/transphobia through fiction that's so valid! but for me personally i'd rather envision a world where it doesn't exist, so. I decided it doesn't.
- When i say i want authentic trans rep, i don't just mean the characters themselves; depictions of "well-intentioned" transphobia are something that hit home more than the usual shit.
