- These are the same dudes who say no one watches or cares about women’s sports. But now they suddenly care about “the sanctity of women’s sports.” gtfoh. It’s thinly veiled transphobia. It’s not about women’s sports at all. It’s about stoking hate against trans folks—trans women, in particular.
- Keeping trans women from playing women's sports is about one thing transphobia these people couldn't give less of a shit about the sanctity of women's sports, they just want to hurt trans people as much as they can.
- Proof positive that transphobia has never, ever, *ever* been about fairness in womens sport.
- Talking about the "trans sports issue" is an immediate block. It's not an issue, it's a dog whistle for transphobia, full stop.
- So “protect women’s sports” was just transphobia and they don’t actually care about women’s sports? who could have possibly seen that coming?
- The roots of transphobia and homophobia are misogyny. Bring it into sports and you add a whole layer of built in racism.
- As always, transphobia is an offshoot of sexism. Sports were initially segregated along gender lines because men were losing to women and didn't like it. Not because men were better.
- The whole 'it's unfair for trans athletes to compete in women's sports!' thing is just so fucking idiotic. The entire thing is based on the assumption that 'well of course any man could beat any woman in a sport'. It starts from a position of misogyny and continues to transphobia.
- We can’t discuss fairness for trans women in sports without addressing misogyny. Transphobia is a child of misogyny, and the barriers faced by trans women are extensions of the same systems that devalue and exclude cis women in sports.
- Transphobia is misogyny. Always. Transphobes use girl's and women's sports as a convenient tool to advance their bigotry, but like you say it is clear they do not actually care about the welfare of women.
- There are about 12 transgender women in sports in the entire us. Transphobia is a made up fear and is using women to mask the intentional bigotry.
- Trans sports participation is a non-issue hyped up by bigots who want to use it as an easy wedge to normalise transphobia.
- The far right and the organised transphobia movement have attacked trans women's right to play sports because they knew it's a form of transphobia that people like you would think is fair and reasonable. They are advancing from there towards their end goal of eliminating trans people.
- God i hate how effective trans girls in sports has been as a foot-in-the-door issue to soften people up for the *big* transphobia.
- Trans people in sports was the narrow wedge issue that allowed all this transphobia to blossom. Out of all of the women’s ncaa athletes only 10 are trans. Now they got kicked out for a moral panic.
- Transphobia harms everyone. Including cis women and men. There is zero valid reason to discriminate against trans people in sports. Period.
- Transphobia as a tool to police and demean women of color in sports has already been happening for years.
- Also transphobia is already coming for cis people. It’s been targeting cis people since it started. In fact women athletes have been accused of being male for decades.
- Unsurprising, considering cis women of colour are common victims of transphobia, especially in sports. Transphobes tend to also be racist and sexist, as exemplified by the fact that terfs often side with neo-nazis and pro-lifers despite ostensibly being "feminists".
- If any of my fellow cis people are reading this, transphobia eventually extends to you. It'll go beyond just "transvestigators". It's already reaching us. Imane khelif. Serena williams. A cis teenage girl on a junior varsity basketball team. A 9 year old girl playing shot put in track & field.
