- Tpusa created this list to warn students and parents against post-secondary teachers who “discriminate against conservative students and advance leftist propaganda in the classroom.”.
- The professor watchlist (2016, tpusa) listed professors accused of pushing “leftist propaganda” or bias. In practice, it cherry-picked quotes and acted like a blacklist, drawing criticism for targeting academics rather than fostering debate.
- Tpusa encouraged students to target profs based on speech outside of the classroom. It publicized a “watchlist” of profs who had expressed opinions contrary to right wing dogma, as perceived by kirk acolytes.
- Tpusa established and ran a "watchlist" that led to the systematic harassment of thousands of professors and teachers on it, to their being doxxed, receiving obscene, racist, violent phone calls from strangers threatening r*pe and murder for speech they did not agree with.
- A professor friend was on that list and was stalked and harassed by tpusa for two years. His family too.
- Rutgers tpusa used lies and hate speech to label professor mark bray "professor antifa," claiming he is a terrorist, and calling for his firing. He received death threats that led to his family leaving the country to continue teaching remotely.
- In 2018 i interviewed 3 faculty attacked by tpusa & aligned orgs. Tpusa's goal was to get them fired--not because they were bad teachers or abusive to students. No, it was because they didn't pass the purity test. This wasn't reasoned debate. It was terrifying harrassment involving death threats.
- Tpusa is an extremist group black professors on racist tpusa watch list face harassment on and off campus more than 300 professors are on the watch list dedicated to documenting professors who have spoken about anything the far right deems “radical.”.
- Tpusa’s list gains fresh attention after it expands and some notice it disproportionately names academics of color.
- Tpusa is a hate group, a domestic terrorism group. Tpusa’s professor watchlist is a target list. Right-wingers terrorize professors on the list.
- Oh absolutely, the point is silencing speech and opposition. My point is, in my admittedly cursory/non-scientific scroll through, there seem to be a disproportionate number of women and professors of color. Almost as if tpusa has a misogynistic, white supremacist worldview (imagine that!).
- It is quite simply dishonest to describe tpusa as a “free speech” organization and not even mention the “professor watchlist,” as npr just did.
- The grand irony of this op/ed is that tpusa itself was an effort to silence faculty speech it didn’t like with their lists.
- Creating a website called professor watchlist (run by tpusa) claiming professors are advancing "leftist propaganda" which encourages your followers to then threaten, harass and intimidate academic staff is violent political rhetoric.
- What is your objection to the tpusa professor watchlist? are you aware of any inaccuracies? incidents of libel? doesn't tpusa have the same rights to free speech as the rest of the country and press?
