- Going to potentially step on a landmine in ai racism discourse but here it goes i dont really like seeing people invoking real-life racism as a means of attacking ai and its boosters. Not because it hurts the computers feelings, but because it feels like a trivialization of real-life racism.
- The notion of ai racism only serves to cheapen and distract from human racism. Computers cant suffer. Humans can. Everyone can have a little butlerian jihad as a treat.
- You cant be racist against lines of code, you absolute dumbass. Also, minimizing the horror and atrocity of racism by equating it to people hating ai is insanely fucked up.
- Yeah im genuinely uncomfortable with the haha lets make a slur for ai while also thinking its impossible to be discriminatory towards ai. Because this absolutely is just ironic racism thats mirroring actual anti-black sentiments.
- Ill be honest, the whole racism against ai and robots and calling them clankers and wirebacks being funny and trendy is concerning? like people are so excited to get to be racist, coming up with new slurs?
- Yea but i didnt say that i said repurposing the racism neuron for hating ai like there are real idiots out there doing jim crow roleplay but replacing the n word with clanker what else would u call that.
- Ai and racism what ai does have is systemic inbuilt racism. It regurgitates existing narratives and ideas without critical analysis or fact checking. And lets not mince our words. The internet is filled with racism. Racism inracism out and that is a problem.
- And thats what happens when a bunch of white racist tech bros use training data thats just photos of black people. Human reviewers pointed out this was a false positive but were ignored in favor of the ai that told them to disrupt the education of a black student. Ai is making racism faster.
- This is particularly weird since ai is significantly making racism more intractable. Decades of jim crow laws and reclining policies put into an automated system which asks no questions about its directives is a huge win for racists.
- Yeah, everything ive seen sbout anti-ai racism looks calculated to dilute the idea of racism. If you can be racist to a computer then maybe racism isnt a serious thing to consider. If activists claim you can be racist to a computer maybe activists in general are ridiculous.
- Obviously you cant actually be racist to ai, but apparently some people are looking for an excuse to act out real world racism in a way that is still offensive to actual people, but now has plausible deniability.
- Its weird that they care more about people being racist to ai than they do about actual racism. Wait no thats actually completely expected from these types of people.
- Its more racist to equate the oppression of poc to people hating ai it undermines the very real and severe harm caused by genuine racism the only times people slandering ai has been bad is when they were doing it to make fun of poc like making words based off racist slurs, not ai. Augh.
- Imo if you choose to use slurs to talk about how much you hate ai, when there are literally countless ways you could talk about hating ai without conjuring up harm done to marginalized people, you are racist. Like you dont even know how to hate something without using the framework of racism?!
- The thing to remember is that these people dont matter outside the fevered ai-anthropomorphizing imagination. People mixing real-world racism into their hatred of ai are just real-world racists, and have no bearing on the actual issue at hand outside malicious efforts to conflate them with us.
