- This veteran is dead right. Poverty is the number one recruitment tool the army has.
- Its literally the only option to escape poverty in much of the country. The term poverty draft exists for a reason.
- For a very large number of people, enlisting in the military is the only way to get out of poverty. Survival trumps morality every time.
- What motivated you to enlist? poverty. We offer our soldiers socialism to go abroad and defend capitalism, and i was to poor to say no.
- Make people hungry and they end up joining the military, where they get 3 squares a day and healthcare. Poverty is the greatest recruiting tool ever used.
- For many, its their only chance to get an education and get out of poverty.
- What motivated me to enlist? poverty. The number one recruitment tool of the u.s. Military is to go to highly impoverished areas and offer you things that america doesnt offer you, like housing, health care, income, stability. We offer our soldiers socialism to go abroad and defend capitalism.
- We offer soldiers socialism to defend capitalism. We pledge allegiance to a flag that never gives allegiance back to the people. Poor kids go to war so rich kids can go to harvard.
- I was recruited through poverty. We offer our soldiers socialism eg basic healthcare, housing, income to go overseas and defend capitalism.
- The military is the largest socialist program in the us, and is the most realistic path for many to lift themselves out of poverty.
- The military provided socialism to soldiers. The things you cant get in the usa otherwise. Healthcare, education, raising you out of poverty.
- Its not lost on me that the military uses job security and steady pay and benefits as recruiting tactics in poor neighborhoods only for military families to still experience poverty.
- Yup, bit what i dont understand is why the servicemen are so poorly paid that they have to rely on snap and foodbanks overseas to feed their families. Wtf? how is there even any incentive to join the us military and live in poverty?
- The fact that we have military families on snap and other welfare subsidies makes me so fucking angry. The military lures people in and then pays poverty level wages.
- When i served in the navy, i lived in poverty, as did my enlisted military colleagues. I can only imagine that it is so much worse now.
- This really should not be happening. Frankly, military families should not be living that close to the poverty line to begin with.
- The fact that military families are at the food banks over a miss paycheck is an indicator of how close our soldiers and their families are to poverty.
- The us military is incredibly predatory and does a ton of recruitment at high schools in poorer areas, often intentionally misrepresenting to these kids what theyre really signing up for.
- The military preys on poverty. A lot of these kids get snapped up before they even understand what theyre doing.
- The methods they use to coerce teenagers into joining the military and making a decades long commitment are so vile. They prey heavily on people from low income backgrounds.
- Poverty is the main tool for recruiting kids in the army. We give socialism to our soldiers so they go abroad defend capitalism. And i strated realizing shit, maybe we are the bad guys after all.
- The poverty draft is a bullshit argument. Clearly, it is immoral to shoot starving brown kids for money even if youd work at mcdonalds otherwise.
- Morality vs poverty is a choice they already made.
