- How do indieauthors make any money? i have made, like, 200 in 5 years, and that was selling physical copies to people who wanted to support a local author. I cant even get reads for free. I love to write, but i will never be a known or paid author. Im gonna be working retail forever.
- I had another well-meaning person be baffled that im not making money off of my published books yesterday so, im fuming a little.
- I wish people understood that writers do not write for free. We are not little content bots that live in your computer. We have needs. Physical needs, same as you shelter, food, healthcare, clothing. And we have to make money to provide those things.
- I am tired of writing 100,00 words a month. I want to work less hard, ideally for more money but mostly i just want to work less hard.
- The publishing industry is stuck in an insanity cycle pay a celebrity with name recognition but no skill as a writer an obscene amount of money for a hack job book, lose a shit-ton of money on that book, do the same thing again hoping maybe this project will recoup the losses of the last one.
- Pub has the money! but they wont invest it in risky diverse, weird, experimental books.
- The book biz nice take on the state of publishing . You wont make any moneyso you better just love to doing it.
- I dont think they even want to be authors. They have an idea for some ridiculous self-insert fanfic ripoff of their favorite stories that they think would make them a lot of money because theyre keen on it.
- Im gonna try and be annoying about my patreon cuz money is good, yknow.
- The money i get monthly from patreon is just about the only stable income i have.
- I literally can only afford to spend so much time on marketingself promo haha. It doesnt really matter if it might eventually pay off with higher sales--i have no money now.
- I legitimately like self publishing books because im a control freak and its what makes me the most money and allows me to fund my next project.
- Moneys tight. First thing to go is extras and usually books lovers wouldnt see books as this but when you can get a library card, buying books do. Support libraries and save money at the same time but it ends up hurting authors.
- I should also say! if you want to read sobb but dont have the extra funds right now just shoot me a dm and i cant send you an epub you can also request it through your library! people reading this thing is way more important to me than making money from it.
- I dont particularly want to give amazon my ebook money, but collecting, organizing, and wishlisting my 2-3 dollar ebook library is my current hobby, more even than reading.
- The public library is one of humanitys greatest inventions and i am convinced that frequenting them is good for the soul of a citizen. A public realm where goods are exchanged with no money trading hands is spiritually cleansing.
