- Pornography is not to blame for misogyny, that’s existed since the dawn of time. Misogyny exists because people hate women, they also hate women exploring their sexuality and having control over their bodies.
- What i find baffling about this line of argument is the idea that porn intrinsically trends towards violent misogyny, as opposed to being a relatively passive mirror of society's kinks. We live in a violently misogynistic world, and so much porn reflects that. But alternatives plainly exist.
- I think there's a foundation of porn culture that is just misogyny. However, porn is not the cause of misogyny, but a product of it. Say if kids couldnt look at porn, theyll still learn misogyny first hand. Well done, nothing changes.
- What people don't get is that the dangerous sexual attitudes reenforced by the porn industry (rape culture, objectification, misogyny, fetishization and so on) are infact a reflection of the pervasiveness of these ideologies throughout broader society.
- I don’t think we can blame porn for violent misogyny. I think that causation flows in the other direction.
- Absolutely fuck misogyny. But also, believing sex work done by women is inherently demeaning is misogyny. It's also based on a load of really questionable and in some cases overturned psychology.
- I have come to realize that anti-porn misogyny. Don't ask me how long it took me to figure this out, it is way too long.
- Anybody who tries to blame rape culture or misogyny on the existence of porn isn't taking those issues seriously and should not be listened to. They want control, not safety.
- The anti porn crusade is just sparkling paternalistic misogyny, even when it wears a pink pussy hat and calls itself radical.
- “women being sexy as a job is exploitation of their bodies” is their reasoning so basically it’s just misogyny.
- Porn definitely contributes to misogyny and violence towards women. I mean, duh.
- Innocent women are literally exploited by that industry plus it is literally the reason that why 50% of the misogyny exists because it teaches men that women are just tools for having sex.
- So true. Watching porn contributes to misogyny and trafficking and rape culture. Reading it is free silly and fun!
- The misogyny pornography breeds is unreal, man. Girls are expected to do increasingly demeaning and dangerous shit. This is the stuff i worry about when it comes to people younger than me, you know?
- The porn actually does degrade women and actually does degrade children’s existence. Porn actually does change your brain to accept misogyny, so there’s a difference right there.
- Instead of tackling the deeply-rooted societal misogyny, sex work - as always - becomes an easy scapegoat. Incels aren't women-haters because of porn.
- Our culture is so steeped in misogyny that blaming any one aspect of it is a lost cause. And i don’t think it’s good to ignore the fact that a lot of it is coming from the puritanical right who also think porn is destroying society.
- It's older than that. The problems people associate with porn are the problems of patriarchy and misogyny endemic to every aspect of society, but because porn involves sex it's easier to scapegoat.
- I thought it was patriarchy, capitalism and misogyny; but hey, let's blame porn and not the system that normalize violence against women and marginalized communities. Puritanism doesn't protect women and girls; it does the opposite.
- Advocacy groups who primarily target adult material that glorifies or tolerates violence against women are getting cause and effect completely backwards. Adult material, advertising, and the like don't create misogyny, they merely profit from it.
