1. Críticas a la Representación del Colonialismo.
Usuarios expresan su descontento por la aparente promoción del colonialismo en el remake, contrastando con la película original que, según muchos, ofrecía una crítica sutil a este tema.
- I’m still mad at the pro colonialism and anti indigenous tone in that new fuck ass lilo and stitch movie.
- Bold choice of the live action lilo and stitch to change the message to “colonialism and assimilation are good actually.”.
- The original animated lilo and stitch is soo good. I can’t believe they made the live action into colonialism propaganda.
2. Eliminación de la Crítica al Turismo y la Cultura Hawaiana.
Se critica la eliminación de elementos que criticaban el impacto del turismo y la explotación cultural en Hawái, presentes en la película original.
- They quite literally colonized the original themes of lilo & stitch in the "remake" - lilo getting taken by cps is seen as a good thing - no commentary about colonialism or tourism impacting hawaii - erasing nani's character and how much she cares about keeping lilo.
- Modern-day disney knows they can't allow commentary of tourism and colonialism in the lilo and stitch remake because that would just make them hypocrites on their own contributions to it years after when the original cane out. It could potentially cause people to not want to go to their resorts.
- Not to mention how the movie has seemingly changed the entire message of colonialism/tourism ruining hawaii. Ice cream guy wasn’t just comic relief, he was a white, sunburnt tourist who lilo would take pictures of. She treated tourists like an attraction since that is how they treated her.
3. Alteración del Mensaje sobre la Familia y Ohana.
Muchos usuarios expresan su decepción por la alteración del mensaje central sobre la familia (Ohana), especialmente en relación con la decisión de Nani de dar la custodia de Lilo.
- Nani gives up custody? they took a beautiful movie about rejecting colonialism and made nani give up lilo so she could pursue her own dreams?! that’s against the whole indigenous goddamn point! ugh.
- The ending in particular is a spit in the face. Nani gives up custody of lilo to study on the mainland?? not only is that the exact opposite of the values of ohana espoused in the original film it's particularly nasty because colonialism seeks to break apart indigenous families.
- Wow live action lilo and stitch is a dumpster fire first nani put lilo in fosters care even though the whole point of animated movie was ohana means family and family doesn’t leave each other behind secondly there no commentary unlike the original on the colonialism and unfair tourism of hawaii.
4. Acusaciones de Propaganda Pro-Sistema y Pro-Colonialismo.
Algunos usuarios acusan al remake de promover una visión favorable del sistema gubernamental y del colonialismo, en contraste con la crítica presente en la película original.
- I feel like this was a sinister motive behind the dumb changes in the new lilo and stitch too. Wash away the dirt of criticizing the system the original had. Have the solution be within the system and within colonialism.
- Alright this is the last time i bring it up, but the director of the movie came out and said “my vision for the movie was to break the hawaiian cultural idea of ohana in order to try to force people to more easily accept capitalism.” so basically modern day colonialism wrapped up as a film. Wtf.
- They saw the themes of the original movie and said "why don't we do the exact opposite?" family doesn't stick together no matter what and the anti-government, anti-colonialism commentary about the way the us strips indigenous children from their families is erased too. I hate everything about it.
